WHAT ARE NERDKARDS (NERDCARDS)? Each trading Kard features a famous world scientist with their photograph on the front - or in the case of those before the photograph era - a graphic likeness. A summary describing what he or she is most famous for, whether it be a discovery, a theory or an invention is on the back with a reference for further study. Although the focus of the people in these Kards is Math and Science, these are interdisciplinary tools for learning. They are catalysts to spark the interests and ideas of the future contributors to our world. Permission to reproduce photos provided by The Nobel Foundation |

NerdKards, created by a high school physics teacher, are educational aids designed to be used in conjunction with your school curriculums, but they are also a great source of fun at home. Use your Kards in one of the suggested ways or be creative and make up uses of your own.

HIERARCHY! 2 to 4 players Be the first player to get ten scientists lined up in chronological birth order. Shuffle and deal 10 Kards to each player. Players must arrange Kards as they come photo-side up in front of them from left to right without altering their order. Players should look at their Kards, but should not let anyone else see them. Place remaining Kards photo-side up in a pile. Player one chooses a Kard from the draw pile. He/She may exchange it with any Kard in his/her hierarchy of Kards, or may discard it. Kards are never to be switched around within a hierarchy of Kards. If the draw pile is used up, just shuffle the discard pile and turn it over. The first player to arrange his/her Kards in chronological birth order wins! |
QUEST FOR TRUTH! 2+ players Break up into two teams and split the deck in half, giving each team 51 Kards. The last team to play also gets the last chance at guessing. Player one from each team picks which ever Kard he/she wants from their half of the deck and makes up a trivia question about the Kard to ask the other team. Make sure questions are not too obscure. Remember your turn is next.! Team two gets 60 seconds to come up with the answer - they may confer. If they do not guess correctly, the other players on team one get a chance, not having seen the Kard. If no one guesses correctly, it is player one's turn from team two to select a Kard from the deck. One point per correct answer. The team with the most points wins! |
RESEARCH! 2+ players This game can only be played if you have two sets of Science and Math Kards. Shuffle 25 matching Kards from each set together. Deal 7 Kards per player and put the remainder of the deck face down. Players with matched pairs in their hands may put their pairs in front of them. The person to the left of the dealer asks anyone he/she chooses for a specific Kard to match one in his/her hand. If the person he/she asked does not have that Kard he/she yells "RESEARCH" and player one must pick from the pile. If player one picks the Kard he/she asked for, he/she may continue in turn. If not play continues clockwise. The game is over when all Kards have been paired up. The player with the most pairs wins! |
